We’re pretty good at taking care of most things in our lives. We do the gardening, we get our cars serviced, we keep the house clean.
But how often do we set aside some time to specifically focus on our own wellbeing? Headspace.org.au states that “Good mental health and wellbeing allows you to live your life in a positive and meaningful way and cope with life’s changes and challenges”.
Most people are good at exercising regularly which is a great way to look after your body and mind. But you should also think about dedicating some time to slow down, relax and recharge.
There are many ways to do this. Below we’ve listed a few of our favourite simple ways to leave ourselves feeling reinvigorated.
1. Take time out from socials
First things first - set aside some time for yourself.
This means clearing your schedule and also putting away the phone! For most of us this can be difficult to do, but you’re not going to be able to relax your mind if you’re subjected to the constant ping of notifications tempting you to start that endless scrolling through social media.
Our recommendation - set your phone to its Do Not Disturb mode and place important people in the exception list. This way you’ll get rid of the unnecessary interruptions while feeling secure that you can still be contacted in case of an emergency.
2. Run a warm bath
In our experience people tend to either have baths frequently or never! It’s rarely in between.
If you’re one of the latter, don’t dismiss the idea. Compared to a shower, a good soak in a bath gets you off your feet and the warm water completely envelopes your body for an amazingly comforting experience.
Consider adding a bath soak product to the water. These usually come with mineral salts and fruit oils to mimic the experience of natural hot springs.
3. Get into some fresh PJs
A fresh set of comfortable, loose pyjamas feels great and is a good way to signal to your body that it’s time to settle down.
Several of our self care boxes come with a satin robe. These are also perfect to put on after your bath, feeling the silky smooth satin on your skin.
4. Pour yourself a tea
Tea is the second most-consumed beverage in the world, after water, and has been used for centuries. We find it soothing to sip on one of these, even more so if it’s a cold night.
We recommend using a caffeine-free tea and include this in some of our self care boxes.
5. Start a gratitude journal
While we include a fantastic gratitude journal from Fox & Fallow in our Deluxe Self Care Pack, you don’t necessarily need a formal journal to get started on developing a gratitude mindset.
Pick up a notepad and write down three things you are grateful for. It could be people, experiences, achievements, starting a new hobby or education course or just the weather!
Turn this into a daily habit and watch your feelings of satisfaction and fulfilment grow. It’s also a great resource to turn to if you’re ever feeling down.
This is by no means a complete list of every way to improve your wellbeing, and we recommend visiting headtohealth.gov.au and headspace.org.au for informative resources on looking after yourself.
